2.2
Feed Drive System
2.2.1 Overview

The puncher unit installed in the feed path between the host machine and finisher punches
holes in the paper when the paper stops temporarily. When the trailing edge of the paper
reaches the prescribed position, the puncher stops the paper to punch holes along the trailing
edge of the paper.
Names and roles of the motor, solenoid, and sensors used for punching are listed below.

Motor Role
Punch motor Drives the punch.
Solenoid Role
Punch slide solenoid*1 Avoids a paper end.
Sensor Role
Punch motor clock sensor Detects a punch motor clock.
Punch home position sensor Detects the home position of the punch shaft.
Trailing edge sensor
(Photosensor PCB /LED PCB) Detects the trailing edge of paper.
Punch dust full sensor
(Punch dust full sensor PCB) Detects that the punch dust container is full.
