LASER/Scanner Section
Fig. 4-35 shows the basic configuration of the LASER/scanner section.

The LASER unit turns the LASER beam ON and OFF according to the
LASER drive signal. This LASER beam passes through the collimator lens
and cylindrical lens to be irradiated on the scanning mirror that is rotating
at a fixed speed. After being irradiated on the scanning mirror, the LASER
beam passes through the toric lens and condensing lens to be scanned on
the photosensitive drum. This series of operations is repeated for each line
of the image at a time. The photosensitive drum also rotates at a fixed
speed to prevent lines of the image overlapping each other.
Next, let’s describe the functions of each component.
(1) Collimator lens
The LASER beam emitted from the semiconductor LASER is diffused.
This lens corrects the LASER beam so that it becomes parallel.
