Appendix D. Upgrading the Operating
System
The Storage Module operating system is stored in flash memory. (It is NOT
deleted when the Storage Module is reset.) The operating system can be
upgraded using Campbell Scientific’s CSOS download utility. If you need to
upgrade the module operating system, please contact Campbell Scientific for a
copy of this utility compatible with the SM4M and SM16M.
Collect any data stored in the module before upgrading the
operating system. Any data held in memory is irreversibly
erased during the upgrade process.
To load the operating system you will need to connect the module to a PC
running Windows, via an SC532(A) interface. Please follow the instructions
supplied with CSOS.
Do not attempt to load any operating system other than that designed for these
Storage Modules. Do not disconnect the power supply to the module during
the upgrade process, otherwise the module memory may be corrupted
requiring a factory repair.
When CSOS indicates that the download is complete, wait until
the green Write LED on the Storage Module goes out before
disconnecting power or using the Storage Module. The green
LED remains on until the Storage Module completes the OS
upgrade.
