REMOTE CONTROL–CALREC SERIAL CONTROL PROTOCOL
The Calrec Serial Control Protocol
(CSCP) allows for remote control over
mixing console operational functions
by 3rd party systems such as video
switchers and production automation
systems.
Severalbroadcastequipment
manufacturersprovideserialcontrol
protocolsthatarecompatiblewithCSCP.
Thefollowingsystemsarecurrentlyin
usearoundtheworld,activelycontrolling
Calrecaudiomixingconsolesforlive,on-
airapplications:
• RossOverdrive(AutomatedProduction
Controlsystem)&Rossvideo
switchers.
• SonyELC.
• SnellKahuna.
• Mosart.
• GrassValleyIgnite.

totheirproducts.
CSCPversions
Additionalcontrolshavebeenmade
accessibleviaCSCPsinceitwasfirst
introduced,requiringnewcommandstobe
addedtotheprotocol,andnewversions
released.If3rdpartyequipmentreceives
CSCPdataitdoesnotunderstand,it
shouldsimplyignoreit,howeverCalrec
cannotguaranteetheoperationofthird
parties,andassuchmakesallCSCP
versionsavailableforuseonBrio36.
FaderscontrolledbyCSCP
ThirdpartysystemswithaCSCP
connectiontoaBrio36consolehave
accesstocontrolandreadbackthestatus
ofupto72pathfaders.Startingwiththe
lowestnumberedfader(usuallynumber1)
onlayerA,uptothehighestconsecutively
numberedfader,followedbythesamefader
numbersonlayerBetc.uptoatotalof72
faders.
ControlsavailableviaCSCP
CSCPV1.0allowsthirdpartycontrollers:

positionof72pathfaders.
• Read-backofthe72faders’path/port
labels.
• Controloverandread-backoftheCut/

Connection
Althoughtheprotocolisbasedonand
passesserialdata,theCalrecconnection
ismadeviaTCP/IP.Ifyouwishto
interfacetothirdpartysystemsthatonly
supportpointtopointRS232/422serial
connections,TCP/IPconversionwillbe
required.Forthispurpose,Calrecsupport
theuseof,andcansupplyPerleIOLAN
units.
ConnectingviaCorporateLAN
IfCSCPcontrolistobesuppliedovera
corporateLAN,itisimportantthattheIP
addressoftheethernetportissettobein
rangeofthecorporatenetwork.
Brio36Connectionconfiguration
TheCSCPcontrollerwillneedtobe
connectedviaoneofthetwoethernet
portsandmustbeconfiguredfromthe
LANConfigurationpageinSystem
Settings.
In addition to the IP address, both
the Calrec system and the 3rd party
require configuring to use the same
TCP socket port. The default TCP
socket port for CSCP is 49200.
Ifmultipleconsolesaretobecontrolled,
eachwillrequireitsownCSCPconnection.
User&bootupenable/disable
Onceconfigured,CSCPcanbeenabled
ordisabledfromthetouchscreen
interface.CSCPsettingsarenotsaved
aspartoftheshoworusermemoryand
willthereforenotchangewhendifferent
shows/memoriesareloadedontothe
controlsurface.
