
Crankshaft Position Sensor: DTC P0339 (56)
Connect Breakout Box to harness only, leaving
Electronic Control Module (ECM) disconnected.
Measure resistance between Breakout Box
connector [11] (Gray) terminals “18” and “26”.
Resistance more than 1 megohm?
YES
NO
Check for intermittent connection,
pinched or damaged wires, and
loose CKP sensor fasteners.
Conditions found?
Disconnect connector [79].
Leaving ECM disconnected,
measure resistance between
ground terminals “18” and “26”
on Breakout Box [11] (Gray).
Continuity to ground (less than
1 megohm resistance)?
YES
Repair as
necessary.
NO
Connect DVOM (Part No. HD-39978) to terminals
“18” and “26” on Breakout Box [11] (Gray). Set
DVOM to AC volts and crank engine.
Does DVOM read 1.0V minimum during cranking?
NO
Connect DVOM at terminals
“1” and “2” of connector [79A].
Does DVOM read 1.0 VAC
minimum while cranking?
With DVOM still connected,
check for intermittents using
2.7 WIGGLE TEST.
Intermittents present?
YES
Repair as
necessary.
YES
Install known good
CKP sensor. Clear
codes and retest.
DTC P0339 set?
NO
YES
Check for continuity
between terminal “1” of
connector [79B] and
terminal “18” on Breakout
Box [11] (Gray). Is
continuity present?
NO
YES
NO
Reinstall original
CKP sensor.
Replace ECM.
YES
NO
Repair open on (BK/BE)
wire between terminal “2” of
connector [79B] and
terminal “26” of connector
[11B] (Gray).
Repair open on (GN/W)
wire between terminal
“1” of connector [79B]
and terminal “18” of
connector [11B] (Gray).
YES
Repair short to
ground on (GN/W)
or (BK/BE) wire
between
connectors [11B]
and [79B].
NO
Replace
CKP sensor.

Clear DTCs and confirm proper
operation with no check engine
lamp. Codes can be cleared using
DIGITAL TECHNICIAN (Part No.
HD-44750).
After replacing ECM or TPS, TPS
zero set procedure must be
performed. Refer to THROTTLE
POSITION SENSOR in the
appropriate BUELL SERVICE
MANUAL.
