Battery Systems
Grounding
The negative terminals of the house and starting bat-
teries, and the negative battery cable from the out-
board engine, are connected together at the negative
buss bar located inside the control console. This neg-
ative buss bar serves as the return point for the entire
12 VDC electrical system.
The accessory fuse block and negative terminal strip
on the electronics distribution panel also connect to
the negative side of the 12 VDC electrical system at
the buss bar. The connections are made with #8 AWG
black marine cables from each device.
Also directly connected to the negative buss system
are any shielded cables from certain sensitive elec-
tronic devices. This helps mitigate radio frequency
interference (RFI) generated by various electrical sys-
tems.
Note: All DC grounding wires and cables are
black
.
The grounding buss system and the bonding buss sys-
tem are also connected to each other to reduce the
possibility of a voltage challenge between the two sys-
tems.
