1 Safety instructions
Carefully read through
the instructions before
putting into operation.
Observe the instructions and
keep them in an easily acces-
sible place for reference.
Safety instructions are iden-
tified by a dot
and must
always be observed.
The charger must be set up
horizontally on a firm surface.
Protect the charger against
moisture.
Do not cover the charger.
Set up the charger so that
there is a clearance of at least
15 cm on all sides for ventila-
tion purposes.
Charge batteries only in well-
ventilated rooms.
Avoid fire, naked flames and
sparks!
Explosive gases are produ-
ced during battery charging.
If there is pungent smell
of gas:
Acute danger
of explosion!
Do not switch off the unit.
Avoid fire, naked flames and
sparks.
Do not remove the charging
clips.
Immediately ventilate the
room well.
After ventilation:
Switch off the unit.
Have the battery checked by
an after-sales service center
for Bosch products.
The charger is exclusively
designed for charging fault–
free lead–acid batteries with
nominal capacities ranging
from 12 Ah to a maximum
180 (90) Ah and with nominal
voltages of 12 (24) V!
Only tested batteries must be
connected in parallel for char-
ging.
Do not charge maintenance-
free batteries together with
standard batteries.
Only charge maintenance–
free batteries after establis-
hing that the battery requires
charging, either by means of a
battery test (e.g. with a Bosch
battery tester) or a start at-
tempt (starter no longer
cranks the engine).
Maintenance–free batteries
may only be charged in con-
junction with the appropriate
monitoring (e.g. voltmeter).
The maximum charging time
for maintenance–free batte-
ries is 6 hours for capacities
up to 100 Ah and 12 hours for
capacities over 100 Ah.
Batteries which are not suita-
ble for charging must not be
charged!
The battery must be discon-
nected from the vehicle elec-
trical system if there is a risk
of damaging electronic equip-
ment!
The rated battery voltage and
selected charging voltage
must agree.
The mains connection cable
and the charging leads must
be in perfect condition.
The charger must only be
connected to a mains power
supply where the mains vol-
tage agrees with the voltage
rating on the rating plate.
Comply with the instructions
of the vehicle manufacturer
when using the charger as a
starting aid and when char-
ging vehicle batteries!
Wear protective goggles.
Immediately wash off acid
splashes on the skin or clo-
thing with large quantities of
water. If necessary consult a
doctor.
Unscrew the inspection plugs
of standard batteries before
battery charging.
Never disconnect the char-
ging clips during charging.
Never short-circuit the char-
ging clips.
The charging process must
be terminated as soon as the
charge current remains con-
stant or as soon as the battery
begins to produce gas !
Starting aid may only be given
for a max. 1 minute! Then ob-
serve a cooling–down period
of approx. 25 minutes!
2 Description
Maintenance–free batteries, stan-
dard batteries and exhausted batte-
ries can be charged with the power-
ful rapid start charger W 150 S.
The charger is designed for rapid
charging and for use as a starting
aid.
If there is continuous overloading
the thermostatic switch in the trans-
former switches the charger off.
After a cooling–down period of 15 ...
30 minutes the thermostatic switch
automatically switches on again
