“Search” Function
Put the unit into operation. The green LED indi-
cator
2
lights.
Place the unit with the complete back side on
the surface to be checked and move over the
search area.
When metal is detected, the red LED indicator
3
lights and the bar indicator in the display
4
in-
creases in height.
Continue to move over the surface until the bar
indicator reaches a maximum, decreases again
and the red LED indicator
3
goes out.
For the exact localisation, move over the search
area several times from both directions so that
the red and green LED indicators light alternate-
ly. In this manner, the unit adjusts its sensitivity
automatically.
Only when the green LED indicator
2
lights con-
tinuously within the search area and the bar indi-
cator shows unchanged a single bar, no metal or
voltage carrying wiring was found. If the green
LED indicator lights and several bars are shown,
an unambiguous indication is not possible.
If the unit finds metal, the green LED indicator
2
goes out and the red LED indicator
3
lights. The
bar indicator in the display
4
increases in height.
The increase in height is dependent on the size,
depth and type of metal as well as the material of
the wall. The height increases with the proximity.
The position of the detected metal can be local-
ised better when observing the maximum deflec-
tion of the bar display.
Electrical wiring that does not carry voltage is
detected when it is not too deep.
☞
Before drilling, determine the depth of the metal (see
“Allowable Drilling Depth” Function
).
The blinking symbol and the red LED indicator

signal
voltage carrying
mains wiring. If the
metal of the mains wiring is in the detection
range of the unit, the height of the bar indicator
increases. With the aid of the maximum height,
the position of the mains wiring can be localised
exactly.
No drilling may be performed at this loca-
tion.
A depth measurement of voltage carrying wiring
is not possible.
