culations. Any change in these
influencing variables, caused for
example by a switch to wheels
other than those installed ex-
works, can have serious effects
on the performance of the con-
trol systems.
The sensor rings are essential
for correct road-speed calcula-
tion, and they too must match
the motorcycle's control sys-
tems and consequently cannot
be changed.
If you decide that you would
like to fit non-standard
wheels to your motorcycle,
it is very important to con-
sult a specialist workshop
beforehand, preferably an
authorised BMW Motorrad
retailer. In these cases, the data
programmed into the control
units has to be changed to suit
the new wheel sizes.
Removing front wheel
The front-wheel cover
has to be detached on
one side to facilitate wheel re-
moval/installation.
Place the motorcycle
on an auxiliary stand.
BMW Motorrad recommends
you use the BMW Motorrad
rear-wheel stand.
Install the rear-wheel stand

Lift the front of the motor-
cycle until the front wheel is
clear of the ground, preferably
using a BMW Motorrad front-
wheel stand.
Install the front-wheel stand

from holders
