Switching on
Press any button except ALL or the rear window
heater button to reactivate the automatic air-
conditioning system.
Ventilation
1 Knurled wheels to open and close the air
outlets continuously
2 Levers for changing the direction of the air-
flow
Ventilation for cooling
Adjust the outlets so that cool air is directed
towards you, e.g. if the car's interior has
become hot.
Draught-free ventilation
Adjust the outlets so that the airflow passes the
occupants without striking their bodies directly.
Micro-filter/activated charcoal filter
The micro-filter traps dust and pollen in the
incoming air. The activated charcoal filter in
addition removes gaseous pollutants from the
air entering the car. This combined filter is
changed by BMW Service during routine main-
tenance work.
Independent ventilation
system*
The principle
The independent ventilation system ventilates
the passenger compartment and lowers its
temperature if applicable.
The independent ventilation system is oper-
ated via iDrive, see page
14 . Two different
switch-on times can be preselected.
The independent ventilation system remains on
for approx. 30 minutes. It can also be switched
on/off directly. Due to its high power consump-
tion, you should not switch on the system twice
in a row without first letting the battery recharge
while the vehicle is being driven.
The independent ventilation system is opera-
tional when a switch-on time is preselected and
there is an outside temperature of over 15

59 7 , as well as whenever you switch it on
directly, irrespective of the temperature.
The air flows from the outlets for the upper body
area in the dashboard. The outlets must there-
fore be open.

The independent ventilation system is on.
The symbol on the display of the automatic
air-conditioning system flashes.
