Resistance to water penetration (code W)
In accordance with EN 343 there are three
performance levels for resistance to water
penetration and three performance levels for
resistance to water vapour. For garments testing
according to code W in 6.6 the first number after
the code letter W indicates the performance level
for resistance to water penetration and the second
number the performance level for resistance to
water vapour. A garment with performance level 2
for resistance to water penetration according to EN
343 and perfomance level 3 for resistance to water
vapour according to EN 343 therefore has the
marking W23.
Protective clothing certified according to EN 1149-5 gives the wearer electrostatic protection and reduces
the risk of sparking. The garment shall be used as a part of a fully earthed system to avoid charges.
Materials which are claimed to discharge static electricity shall according to EN 1149-5 comply with at
least one of the following requirements:
t50 < 4 s or S > 0.2 when tested according to EN 1149-3:2004, test method 2 (inductive charge)
surface resistance max. 2.5 x 10

Ω
on at least one surface, when tested according to EN 1149-1.
