QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

* Q: Why do eggs sometimes explode?
* A: When you cook eggs, the yolk may explode due to a steam buildup under its membrane skin. To prevent this,

simply pierce the yolk with a toothpick before cooking. Never cook eggs without first piercing their shells.

* Q: Why should food be left to rest after cooking is finished?
* A: This rest time is very important.

When cooking in a microwave oven, heat builds up in the food and not in the oven. In many foods the internal
heat buildup is enough for cooking to continue, even after removal from the oven. The rest time observed with
pieces of meat, large vegetables and cakes is for them to finish cooking inside without the outside becoming
overcooked.

* Q: Is there a risk of damage to the microwave oven if it is run empty?
* A: Yes. Never run a microwave oven empty.

* Q: Why does the oven not always cook food as quickly as the microwave oven cooking guide says it should?
* A: Take another look in the guide to check that all of the instructions were followed precisely and find what may have

caused any variation in cooking time. The cooking time and power settings shown are only suggestions, to avoid
overcooking food, which is the problem most often encountered when first learning to use a microwave oven.
Variations in the size, shape and weight of food may require longer cooking times. Use your own best judgement
as well as the suggestions in the guide to determine whether food is properly cooked, just like you would with a
conventional cooking appliance.

* Q: Can the microwave oven be used without the glass tray or with it turned over to accept a larger size dish?
* A: No. If you remove the glass tray or turn it over, food will not cook properly. The dishes used in the oven must fit on

the moving platter.

* Q: Is it normal that the glass tray rotates in both directions?
* A: Yes. The glass tray will rotate clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the motor rotation direction when

cooking begins.

* Q: Can I cook popcorn in the microwave oven? How do I obtain the best results?
* A: Yes. Use special "microwave popcorn" packages and follow the instructions on the pack. Never use plain paper

packs. Be sure to do the "pop test" by listening during cooking: stop the oven as soon as you stop hearing a “pop”
every 1 or 2 seconds. Never attempt to cook unpopped corn again. Never use a glass container for making
popcorn.

* Q: I accidentally started the microwave oven without any food in it. Is it damaged?
* A: If the oven only ran empty for a short while, it will not be damaged. You are however advised to avoid repeating

this operation.

* Q: Can the oven be used without the glass tray or turntable ring?
* A: No. The glass tray and the turntable ring must always be in place in the oven before starting to cook.

* Q: Can I open the oven door during cooking?
* A: The door can be opened at any time during cooking. Microwave energy is instantly cutoff and the timer

countdown suspended until the door is closed once again.

* Q: Why is the inside of the microwave oven damp after cooking food in it?
* A: Dampness on the microwave oven sides is normal. This is caused by steam from the food cooked in the oven

condensing on the oven's cold sidewalls.

* Q: Does microwave energy pass through the oven door window?
* A: No. The metal grille on the window reflects the microwave energy back into the oven cavity. Its openings are

designed to let light pass and not microwave energy.
