APPENDIX H
DEVICE END-OF-LIFE DISPOSAL
To decommission the Crossvent ventilator, the user may send it back to Bio-Med Devices for proper disposal and recycling
of all applicable components. If this is not practical, the user may disassemble the device and recycle components using local
recycling resources. It is recommended to separate out the brass, aluminum, other metals, circuit boards, wire harnesses, and
batteries for respective recycling. The batteries are NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) type. Please consider these potential
hazards before attempting disassembly of the ventilator:
Disassembly Hazards (for service or EOL device disposal)
•
Once the front bezel is removed, the copper finger strips installed around the edges of the front bezel can cut
fingers and hands when handling the assembly.
•
When (and after) removing the front bezel and back panel, sharp edges and corners on the back panel and four-
sided aluminum case can cause cuts and scratches. Careful handling of these parts should be taken in order to avoid
severe scratches and cuts.
•
Various elements on the main circuit board create the possibility of hands getting pricked, more so when the cable
connectors are removed.
•
The battery pack may retain some stored energy, so the metal contacts inside the connector housing should not be
touched. These contacts should be covered with electrical tape after removing the battery.
