en
ne use the tool unless they are famili-
ar with the tool and these instructions.
Power tools are dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalign-
ment or binding of moving parts, breaka-
ge of parts and any other conditions that
could affect operation of the tool. If the tool
is damaged, have it repaired before using it.
Many accidents are caused by poorly maintai-
ned tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cut-
ting edges do not bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tools, accessories and car-
bide inserts, etc. in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the working
conditions and the work to be carried out.
Using the power tool for any purpose other than
its intended use may result in hazardous situ-
ations.
5. Operation and maintenance of battery-powered
tools
a) Only charge with chargers specified by the
manufacturer.
Chargers suitable for one battery type may pre-
sent a fire hazard when used with another bat-
tery type.
b) Use tools only with the specifically designa-
ted battery.
Using another battery may present a risk of in-
jury or fire.
c) When the battery pack is not in use, store it
away from other metal objects such as clips,
coins, keys, nails, screws or other metal ob-
jects that could cause a short circuit from
one terminal to the other.
Short circuits of the battery terminals can cause
burns or fire.
d) Improper handling may result in liquid lea-
king from the battery; avoid contact. If con-
tact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If
the liquid comes into contact with the eyes,
seek medical advice.
Liquid leaking from the battery can cause irrita-
tion or burns.
6. Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified
service technician using only original spare
parts.
Doing so ensures that the power tool remains
safe and functions properly.
2. GENERAL SAFETY INFORMATION
FOR REBAR CUTTERS
1. Planned use and residual risks
The machine may only be used for cutting metal
objects, such as reinforcing mesh and rebar. The
maximum cutting diameter is 12 mm and the tensile
strength of the material (steel) must not exceed 490
N/mm². Do not use the machine to cut sheet metal
or any objects other than those mentioned above.
Any use other than those explicitly stated above are
not considered appropriate and therefore not per-
mitted.
Hikoki assumes no liability for improper use of the
machine and for any alterations or modifications
made to it.
Operators must follow the instructions in this manual
to minimise the risk of accidents or person injury.
In particular, they must remain alert when working
under conditions that may cause:
– Any burns from overheated metal parts;
– Damage or injury from incorrect placement or
inadequate lifting or movement;
– Damage or injury caused by splinters/fragments
from the workpiece.
People near the machine when the operator is wor-
king are exposed to the following risks:
– Flying debris (dangerous objects, etc.).
The mechanical vibrations transmitted to the hands
and arms present a risk to operators’ health and sa-
fety, with particular regard to vascular, osteoarthritic,
neurological and muscular diseases.
Employers are responsible for assessing the risk of
mechanical vibrations in accordance with Directive
2002/44/EC.
• Cutting sheet metal is strictly forbidden.
• Using the machine for purposes other than tho-
se specified in this installation and maintenance
manual is strictly forbidden.
• Operating the machine in areas subject to a risk
of explosion is forbidden.
2. Safety devices
The machine is equipped with a safety device that
prevents contact with the upper part of the tool as it
returns after cutting. This is a protective plastic cover
that is attached to the machine using 2 screws
(see figure 1).
Never tamper with the safety devices.
3. Always wear a helmet, safety shoes and other pro-
tective equipment when working.
4. Hydraulic oil is flammable and the following precau-
tions must be taken to avoid fire.
• Do not remove the oil plug during operation or
when the tool is hot.
• Only fill with hydraulic oil after the tool has coo-
led down sufficiently.
• When filling with hydraulic oil, choose a location
that is free of any nearby flammable substances
and avoid spills. If hydraulic oil is spilled, make
sure it is wiped up thoroughly.
• Do not smoke when replenishing the hydraulic
oil or using the tool.
• Do not use the tool near the location where the
hydraulic oil was filled.
