Descaling the appliance
CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE!
►
Never use vinegar for descaling the appliance. Vinegar attacks the hose
lines of the appliance and can damage these irreparably.
Scale deposits on the bottom of the appliance lead to increased energy con-
sumption and reduce the service life of the appliance.
Descale the appliance as soon as scale deposits become apparent, using the
table below as an orientation:
Water hardness
Descaling after...
soft
1200 cycles
medium
600 cycles
hard
300 cycles
Ask your local water utility to find out how hard your water is.
1) Empty the capsule container
and drip tray
(see section "Cleaning and
maintenance") and push both back into the appliance.
2) Add commercial descaler for coffee machines to the water tank
and fill
this with water. Follow the data for the descaler when doing so, but never
exceed the MAX mark on the water tank
.
3) Place a sufficiently sized cup on the "Lungo" stand
.
4) Switch on the appliance by pressing the Espresso
or Lungo
button.
5) After the appliance has heated up, press and hold the Espresso
and
Lungo
buttons simultaneously for about 3 seconds. Both buttons
begin to flash and the appliance is in descaling mode.
6) Press the Lungo
button. The appliance pumps water through the pipes
until the water tank
is empty.
NOTE
►
The descaling process can be stopped and continued again at any time by
pressing the Lungo
button.
7) After the appliance has stopped the pumping process, pour the collected
descaling solution into the water tank
once again.

button. The descaling solution is pumped through the
appliance again.
9) Remove the water tank
from the appliance after it has been pumped
empty.
