Chapter 65
TAIL ROTOR GEARBOX ASSEMBLY
1.
Remove and examine the tail rotor gearbox for condition. If
you see any of the following, discard the tail rotor gearbox.
a.
Cracked or distorted housing.
b.
Fractured studs or fractured dowel pins.
c.
Bent or damaged output shaft.
2.
If there is no damage, put a tag on the tail rotor gearbox
and write, “THIS TAIL ROTOR GEARBOX WAS REMOVED
FROM SERVICE BECAUSE OF A SUDDEN STOPPAGE.”
Send the tail rotor gearbox to an approved facility for overhaul.
Chapter 67
TAIL ROTOR CONTROL SYSTEM
1.
Examine the tail rotor flight controls for condition and
correct operation. Replace all of the damaged parts.
2.
If you see one or more of the following defects, discard the
pitch change mechanism:
a.
Tail rotor hub pitch horn failure.
b.
Control tube bent or broken.
c.
Damaged tail rotor gearbox output shaft.
3.
Discard all of the rotating control bolts.
4.
If you do not see any damage after a close visual
inspection of the tail rotor control system, the tail rotor flight
control is serviceable.
Chapter 64
TAIL ROTOR HUB AND BLADE ASSEMBLY
NOTE
Depending on the nature of the impact, the tail rotor
blade(s) may be serviceable. Please contact Product
Support Engineering for information on possible
blade evaluation.
