APPENDIX D: SD Card Replacement Procedure for the TLX640 Controller Card
This procedure assumes a normally operating TLX system using both a Primary and a Back-up Controller Card.
Note: If Partitioning, Restricted Switching or P2P is being used, copy the
upstream.csv
file from the appropriate
/var/local/router
subdirectory. This file
will be copied onto the new SD card.
1. Connect a Linux Command Line Interface serial cable to the Controller Card via the serial
CONSOLE port. Datacomm parameters are: 115200, 8, N, 1, None.
2. Connect a Linux Command Line Interface serial cable to the Back-up Controller Card via the
serial CONSOLE port and issue a
poweroff
command. Wait until the
system halted
message
appears.
3. Remove the Back-up Controller and replace the SD card.
4. Install the Back-up Controller Card into the chassis with a CONSOLE serial connection. Do not
connect the network cable.
5. When the Controller Card boots up, wait for the
crng init done
message, then verify the IP
settings with the
ipconfig
utility.
6. Check the
‘date/time/time zone’ with a
date
command.*
7. Perform other site-specific operations as necessary (
password, hostname, gateway, NTP, etc.
)
8. On the Back-up Controller, issue a
poweroff
command and wait for the
system halted
message to appear.
9. Disconnect the Back-up Controller from the chassis backplane, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect it.
10. Wait for the
crng init done
message, then connect the network cable to the Back-up
Controller Card and wait 10 seconds.
11. Unplug the network cable from the Primary Controller Card.
12. After 20 seconds the system will fail-over to the Back-up Controller and the ACTIVE LED on the
Back-up will come on. On the Primary, the ACTIVE LED will be off and the FAULT LED on.
13. Test the Back-up Controller
’s function by performing a switching operation.
14. On the Primary Controller, issue a
poweroff
command and wait for the
system halted
message to appear.
15. Remove the Primary Controller Card and replace the SD card.
16. Install the Primary Controller with a CONSOLE serial cable. Do not connect the network cable.
17. When the Controller Card boots up, wait for the
crng init done
message, then verify the IP
settings with the
ipconfig
utility.
18. Check the
‘date/time/time zone’ with a
date
command.*
19. Perform other site-specific operations as necessary (
password, hostname, gateway, NTP, etc.
)
20. On the Primary Controller, issue a
poweroff
command and wait for the
system halted
message to appear.
21. Disconnect the Primary Controller from the chassis backplane, wait 5 seconds, then reconnect it.
22. Wait for the
crng init done
message, then connect the network cable to the Primary
Controller.
23. Fail-over from the Back-up Card occurs automatically; The ACTIVE LED will come on.
24. Test the Primary Controller
