Remark:
you can mix the units with other DMX-effects that don’t have the automatic DMX-
addressing option. In that case you still have to set the DMX-addresses of these DMX-effects
manually!
Hint 1:
you can also make the DMX-address of each unit 001
Æ
press the DMX-address button on
the first unit, then press the DMX-address button on the second unit, etc… All units will receive
DMX-address 001.
Hint 2:
You can also give the same DMX-addresses to several units in the same chain: if for
example you have 8 units connected to each other and you want 2 sets of 4 units, each with the
same addresses then you do the following: press the DMX-address button on the 1
st
unit: units 1 to 8
will be addressed starting from 001 for unit 1. After this press the DMX-address button on the 5
th
unit: unit 5 to 8 will be addressed again starting from 001 for unit 5. Units 1+5, 2+6, 3+7 and 4+8 will
each have the same DMX-address.
B. Remote DMX-address setting by any standard DMX-controller:
An amazing feature is the “remote addressing system” that can be done with any ordinary standard
DMX-controller! Remotely you can set the start address of the first unit and all connected units will
automatically receive their proper addresses.
To do this you must program a chase containing 2 scenes, each with 4 channels. To set the starting
address you have to do a small calculation first using the following formula:
DMX Start address = (CH3 x 256) + CH4 + 1
In this formula CH3 can be 0 or 1 and CH4 can range from 000 to 255.
Some examples to make this clear:
•
Start address = 010:
CH3= 0
CH4= 9
[ (0 x 256) + 9 + 1 = 10 ]
•
Start address = 257:
CH3= 1
CH4= 0
[ (1 x 256) + 0 + 1 = 257 ]
•
Start address = 403:
CH3= 1
CH4= 146
[ (1 x 256) + 146 + 1 = 403 ]
Follow the these steps (in this example the start address is set to 403):
•
Make sure the DMX cables of all units are connected.
•
Connect all units to the mains so they are switched on.
•
Edit scene1: CH1= 0, CH2= 255, CH3= 1, CH4= 146
•
Edit scene2: CH1= 255, CH2= 0, CH3= 1, CH4= 146
•
Program these 2 scenes in a chase and run it to automatically set the DMX addresses.
You will notice that all units flash 1x to indicate that the addresses are set.
•
Press the blackout button on your controller 2times to set all units in blackout and back on.
•
Done: in this case the first unit has start address 403, the 2
nd
has address 407, the 3
rd
has
address 411, …
Remark:
you can mix the units with other DMX-effects that don’t have the remote DMX-addressing
option. In that case you still have to set the DMX-addresses of these DMX-effects manually!
OVERHEAD RIGGING
•
Important:
The installation must be carried out by qualified service personal only. Improper
installation can result in serious injuries and/or damage to property. Overhead rigging requires
extensive experience! Working load limits should be respected, certified installation materials
should be used, the installed device should be inspected regularly for safety.
•
Make sure the area below the installation place is free from unwanted persons during rigging, de-rigging
and servicing.
•
The device should be installed out of reach of people and outside areas where persons may walk by or be
seated.
•
Before rigging make sure that the installation area can hold a minimum point load of 10times the device’s
weight.
•
Always use a certified safety cable that can hold 12times the weight of the device when installing the unit.
This secondary safety attachment should be installed in a way that no part of the installation can drop
more than 20cm if the main attachment fails.
•
The device should be well fixed.

•
The operator has to make sure that the safety-relating and machine-technical installations are approved by
an expert before using them for the first time. The installations should be inspected every year by a skilled
person to be sure that safety is still optimal.
•
3 different fixing methods are possible:
•
Fixed to ceiling or truss (1m chain included)
•
Wall fixing (optional wall adapter available)
•
Pole mount (optional adapter for poles up to D=60mm available)
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
A. Standalone 1unit:
•
Just connect the unit to the mains and put on some music. The unit will start working automatically to
the rhythm of the music.
Remark:
You can connect a CA-8 remote controller to the unit if you want to have more control.
B. Two or more units in master/slave setup:
•
Connect 2 to maximum 16 units together. Refer to the chapter “electrical installation” to learn how to
do this (don’t forget to address all units properly!)
•
Connect all units to the mains and put on some music. The units will start working automatically to the
rhythm of the music and show the internal chase programs.
Remark:
You can connect a CA-8 remote controller to the master unit if you want to have more control
over the master/slave operation.
C. Connect the optional CA-8 controller for more control:
The CA-8 controller can only be used in standalone or master/slave mode. Connect the controller to the
CA-8 input of the first unit (master). Now you can control all the connected units:
