USE
5.1
VENTILATION
If wood is to burn, it needs air. For each kilo of wood that you put on the appliance (door
closed), 10 - 15 m
3
of extra air is needed. That means about 50 m
3
per hour!
Depending on how the appliance has been installed, the combustion air will either be
drawn directly from outside or from the living room itself. If the air is drawn in from the
room, it must be ventilated by an opening in the external wall.
The air drawn in from outside (opening in the external wall) may be fi tted with a sliding
grille or fl ap. Ensure that the fl ap is always open before using the appliance.
5.2
GETTING THE APPLIANCE GOING
When you start the appliance, the chimney is still cold and there is little draught. This
means that the chimney’s capacity to draw in air is limited. That is why the air supply
has to be assisted by opening the locking (and/or the door) and air supply slider. Use
dry, fi ne wood and some scrunched-up paper or fi relighters to start the appliance.
Stack about 3 blocks of about 30 cm length on the stoking grate (lay them width-wise).
Put 2 bits of kindling wood on the blocks, of 3 cm x 3 cm and about 20 cm length.
Put 2 or 3 fi re-lighters between the bits of kindling wood.
Put another 2 bits of kindling wood (about 3*3*20 cm) on top of this and light the
fi re-lighters.
You can watch a video on http://www.be.ch/holzfeuerung (or YouTube; search on
“Richtig Anfeuern” ) where this method of lighting-up is demonstrated (only in German).
Nearly close the lift door, leaving it open a fraction on the underside (press once on
“
MY
”). As soon as the fi replace burns well the lift door can be closed.
Note: if the fi replace does not draw properly, the draw can be improved by sliding
the top brake plates towards each other, so that a larger fl ue passage is created.
Adjustments can only be made if the fi replace has completely cooled down.
5.3
INSTRUCTIONS WHILE STOKING
After a while the fi re will burn fi ercely. As soon as the fi re lessens some blocks of wood
can be added.
Using the air supply slider you can now adjust the air supply for further combustion.
Make sure the appliance burns quietly.
