The RAV20 is a device that will receive a standard composite video and analog audio signal over a long distance using
CAT-5 cable. A TAV21 module is required to convert the standard RCA-type audio and video signal to a differential
drive audio/video signal, suitable to transmit over CAT-5 cable. When in use with a TAV21, power can be transmitted to
the RAV20 for up to 500 feet total. When in use with over 500 feet a 12VDC power source is needed (supplied).
1. Dual Box and Decora Chassis Configuration
- The RAV20 is shipped default as a floor box design (F) for use on a
shelf, mounting behind a rack or even next to the source. The RAV20 may be configured for use in a decora wall plate
by removing the screws of the chassis and extracting the decora module assembly.
2. Master Input
- RJ45 CAT-5 audio/video input. The conversion module uses this input as the source of audio and
video that is to be converted back to RCA. The master input is used to source the buffered Slave Video Output.
3. Slave Output
- RJ45 CAT-5 audio/video output. The conversion module uses this output as a slave output from the
first device must connect to the next conversion modules’ Master Input. When using this configuration, ALL RAV20
modules require external power.
4. 12V DC Input
— Connect to an external DC power source (adapter included) for use with greater than 500 ft of CAT-
5 or when using the Slave Output feature.
5. Equalization Control
- Adjustable Audio/Video EQ control. This control is used to adjust / match the total installed
length of Category 5e cable, 0 - 1000 feet, connected to the Master Input.
6. Gold Plated RCA Connectors
- Simple minimum signal loss and degradation.
Master Video Input
The conversion module uses this RJ45 as the audio/video input for conversion back to RCA.
In addition, the master input is used to source the buffered slave output (external power is
needed).
Slave Video Output
The RAV20 module provides a RJ45 slave output to connect additional modules having
identical audio and video. Simply connect the slave output of one module to the master input
of the next. Any number of modules may be connected in this manner, so long as the total
cable run from the TAV21 to the RAV20 does not ex-
ceed 1000 feet. ALL modules must be powered when
using more than 500 feet or when using the SLAVE
OUTPUT feature on the RAV20.

RCA Output
Connect the red (right audio), white (left audio) and yellow (composite video) to the other
audio/video equipment input.
12 VDC IN
Connect to an external DC power source (adapter included) for use with greater than 500 ft of
CAT-5 or when using the Slave Output feature.
Video EQ
This control is used to adjust / match the total installed length of CAT-5 cable. The control
allows adjustment from 0 to 1000 feet.

CAT-5 RJ45 pinouts use the
T568B
standard. See the figure at left. Each
color twisted pair carries the differential
audio / video signal with pin 7 and 8
receiving power for up to 500 feet. Use
of other CAT5 connection standards
may result in increased crosstalk be-
tween signals with associated audio and
video degradation.
The RAV20 modules will be powered from the TAV21 up to 500 feet total. When using a distance over
500 feet total, all modules including the TAV21 and all RAV20 must be individually powered. When
using the SLAVE output feature ALL RAV20 and TAV21 modules must be externally powered.
CAT-5 T568B Standard
The RAV20 module is meant to be paired with the TAV21 for use when transmitting audio and video over CAT-
5 for up to 1000 feet. The TAV21 is used for transmitting the audio and video signal from RCA to CAT-5 and
the RAV20 is used for transmitting the audio and video signal from CAT-5 back to RCA. Below is an example
when using a TAV21 and RAV20 for transmitting an audio and video signal from a dedicated source to a CT
product.
