The 6300ESB (Hance Rapids) has defined the device usage
below:

New OS IDE mode:
6300ESB can work with up to 6 IDE Drivers under
Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
z
Traditional OS IDE mode:
6300ESB can only work with up to 4 IDE Drivers
under MS-DOS, Windows 98 or Windows ME, and
Windows NT 4.0.
