Designed purpose of use
The AVANT Log splitter 550 is an attachment that is suitable for use with AVANT compact loaders that are
shown in Table 1. The attachment is intended to be used by one person at a time for splitting firewood. The
diameter of the log can be up to 300 mm, and the maximum log length is 550 mm. The log splitter must be
coupled to the boom of a loader during use. The log splitter must be placed firmly on the ground, and the
loader is used as a source of power and stability. During splitting operation the operator’s hands are kept on
the two-hand control system of the splitter.
The splitting is operated by a hydraulic cylinder, which presses the wood against a splitting wedge. The height
of the splitting wedge is adjustable, making it possible to split the wood into halves instead of quarters. The
hydraulic cylinder returns to set position after the wood has been split. The starting point of the cylinder is
adjustable according to the length of the wood.
The Log splitter 550 is not designed for any other use than what is specified in this manual and must not be
used for any other purposes than what is intended for. The log splitter is intended strictly for one operator only.
Others must not get near the splitter or the loader. The log splitter is intended for outdoor use only.
The Log splitter 550 is intended for splitting firewood only. When also cutting function is necessary, we
recommend the AVANT Log cutter/splitter.
The attachment has been designed to require as little maintenance as possible. The operator can perform
regular maintenance tasks. All repair work can’t be performed by the operator, and demanding repair and
maintenance operations are to be left for professional technicians. All maintenance work must be done using
proper safety equipment. Spare parts must be identical with original specifications, which can be ensured by
using only original spare parts. A separate spare parts catalogue may be available, consult your Avant dealer.
