First Installation Steps
This chapter may help you to install and power-up your PBX for the first
time and to define the necessary basic configuration that allows internal
as well as external telephoning.
It is presumed that you use the PBX in the default factory setting mode
without extension modules and that you only like to connect a couple of
telephones for trying out. In the following chapters the installation of the
modules and the laying of fixed wiring is described.
Grasp with the forefinger into the opening of the cover as shown in
and move this part of the cover away from the case to release the
locking. At the same time take the cover upwards to completely remove
it from the connection area.
ATTENTION: The case may be only opened by authorized
personnel

Please pay attention to the fact that the plug must always
be pulled out while opening the case. Touching the voltage leading
conductor tracks or the telephone connections may be danger to
life.
Do not install your PBX during a thunderstorm.
As some of the component parts are sensitive to electrostatic dis-
charge, it is important to discharge yourself before touching the
mainboard with your hands or with tools. You should touch a
grounded metal device, such as a radiator or the case of a PC.
The screw mounted case cover part serves as a touching protec-
tion against dangerous voltage and must not be removed.
Removed or destroyed caps on top of the screws (
) will let
the guarantee be terminated.
Please pay attention to the following issues when selecting the installa-
tion location for the PBX:
왎
The PBX may only be operated in closed and dry rooms.
왎
Near the installation location you are in need of an unobstructed
230 volt mains plug with protective earthing for the power supply.
Please make sure that the mains plug is properly connected (accord-
ing to electric safety regulations).
왎
The PBX must be next to the NT in order to avoid long transmission
ways between both units (the enclosed ISDN connection cables are
app. 1 m long). If it is not possible, a fixed wiring (S
0
bus) between
both units will be necessary.
왎
The surrounding temperature must be from 0°C up to + 40°C.
왎
The devices may not be exposed to direct sun light.
왎
The relative humidity may be between 10% and 75%.
왎
No condensation may occur.
왎
The unit must be protected against splashing water and excessive
dust.
왎
Please avoid mechanical stress (e.g. vibrations) and the close
neighbourhood to devices that radiate electromagnetic fields or
interfere with these units (e.g. radios, HAM-radio installations,
mobile telephones, DECT-systems or similar).
Open the Case (Connection Area)
1. Authorized personnel: These are persons that are trained for this purpose (e.g.
certified electricians). They must have the necessary knowledge about the
work in areas with potentially hazardous voltage. They must also have the
knowledge about the latest electrical safety standards and requirements.
