Standard Operating
Procedure
(
SOP
)
Multi-Wavelength Abbe Refractometer
DR-M2
10
)
For measuring a solid, the sample piece must be cut and/or polished to the
specifications. Take the sample and place onto the prism surface of the main prism
using contact liquid. Do not close the secondary prism onto the sample.
11
)
Position the light guide in front of the lighting window of the main prism. The point of
the light guide should be set to slightly higher to the main prism.
12
)
Press the LAMP key and turn it ON. Look through the eyepiece and find the boundary
line by gradually turning the measurement knob. Adjust the boundary line to meet the
intersection point of the cross hairs.
13
)
The value that is indicated on the display when the boundary line meets the
intersection point of the cross hairs is the measured value of the sample.
14
)
After the operation of measurement, remove the solid sample from the prism surface
and wipe off the contact liquid. The prism should be carefully cleaned using ethyl
alcohol and a soft, lint-free tissue to remove all traces of the contact liquid.
*Keep the "instruction manual" of the DR-M2 for quick reference.
2. Daily check
Turn on the power supply switch, and if 20.0(
±
0.2
℃
) is indicated on the display of the
temperature indicator, perform the reference point adjustment with distilled water. By
performing reference point adjustment with distilled water, measurements with the DR-M2
can be taken consistently and accurately. (Although it is not necessary to perform reference
point adjustment checks after each measurement. It is recommended to perform reference
point adjustment again when the refractometer has not been used for an interval of more
than two hours.)
3. Periodical Inspection
Inspect the DR-M2 with a test piece once a month to see if it indicates the measured value
correctly.
Connect a circulating constant temperature bath to the DR-M2, and set the temperature to
20.0(
±
0.2
℃
).
Record and save the checked data.
Inspection by test piece
The DR-M2 display indicates the refractive index.
Measure distilled water and test piece.
Test pieces for inspection are available for purchase.
