There are several ways in which you can secure your computer and the data on it:
•
use the padlock loop on the back of your computer (see page 13) to prevent the system
cover from being removed and so restrict access to the components inside
•
use the user password features to restrict access to the operating system and Setup
•
use a Windows password.
User Password{ XE "System password" }
You can use Setup to set a password that restricts access to Setup and to prevent the
operating system starting without the password being entered.
The password can be up to eight characters long. It is case-sensitive, so make sure you note
the
Caps Lock
setting before setting a password.
To set a password:
1. Turn on the computer and press
Delete
to enter Setup when prompted.
2. Highlight
User Password
and press
Enter
.
3. Type a password of up to eight characters and press
Enter
.
4. Type the password again and press
Enter
.
5. On the
BIOS Features
Setup screen, set
Security Option
to either
System
or
Setup
.
Follow the same steps to change a password. To delete a user password, follow the same
steps, but do not type a new password.
