Final Engine
Assembly
Make sure that the cylinders are secure to the crankcase.
Shown above in the illustration is the 1
1 cylinder configuration
of the kit. Note that the cylinder as shown has the
pushrods to the front and has an additional piece of tubing
installed to simulate the exhaust pipe. Check your scale
documentation for the correct method of assembly

Assembly Detail
Stack parts a-d as shown in the drawing. Use the bolts
included in the kit for cosmetics after the wood parts are sealed.
Parts D and E are spaced apart using the bamboo dowels,
make sure that all the formers are centered to each other
.
Attach rear former F centering on the three holes provided.
Use additional pieces of the dowel to secure E to F
.
Finish the crank case by attaching parts G
as shown. Sand the joints between parts F
to a rounded edge fill as necessary
. Attach
the cylinders as per the version engine you
are building. Pushrods are mounted into the
front of the crankcase.

Contest Hint:
Box the model engine back behind the replica engine to place the propeller
in a scale position (use an drive shaft extension if necessary). Mount a bearing
race between part F and the firewall to allow the replica to spin from the draft
of
f the propeller
. DO NOT

THE DRIVE SHAFT!
when the engine is running the replica should spin freely as they did on the prototypes.
Make Sure that everything is securely attached so as not to lose any parts.
Always inspect the model before and after each flight.
F1 & F2
Note:
Additional parts B and F are to provide additional spacing to
match dif
ferent engine profiles, and to help in obtaining
the correct centerline spacing. Use as necessary

Make the pushrods from scratch
with 1/16 aluminum tubing
with 1/8 tube section for the
bottom slide.
The pushrods mount
to the top lever by slotting the
end of the tube and cross drilling
to make a clevis. File the plastic
levers to accommodate and secure
with a nut and bolt
Dif
ferent types of rocker arms are
included in the laser cut sheets.
The lar
ge arms are for the Gnome
the other are for a LeRhone or Cler
get.
Exhaust manifolds are made from plastic tubing.
Stif
fen them with a piece of wire inside.
