The SD1EX-A2 and SD1EX-A3
hydraulic valves are direct solenoid operated poppet valves. The valves are designed to be screwed into a form
chamber in a block with a 3/4-16 UNF connection thread. The shape and dimensions of the A2 (C-8-2) and A3 (C-8-3) screw-in chambers conform to
ISO/TR 17209 technical specification.
The SD1EX-A2 valve is designed for tight baffling of the working fluid flow, i.e. to stop the movement of the hydraulic cylinder piston rod or the
rotation of the hydraulic motor output shaft. The valve is manufactured in two versions. In the basic position, when the solenoid is de-energized, the
valve is open and free flowing (connection 2S6), or it is closed (connection 2S5). SD1EX-A3 three-way valve is used to control a single-acting
appliance where the reverse motion is provided by the load. Another possible use is to alternately switch fluid flow to two branches of a circuit.
Valves with ATEX certification according to Directive 2014/34/EU and IECEx certification according to IECEx OD 009 and related harmonized
standards may be used in explosive atmospheres consisting of mine gas, gas or dust. The valves are marked with the CE Ex mark of conformity and
are accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity.
Use in explosive atmospheres:
Class I
, mines, where the explosive atmosphere of mine gas is prodominantly methane
The valve has a high degree of protection (EPL = Mb), which makes iniation unlikely during the interval between gas discharge and valve shutdown.
It is designed for category M2 devices that remain off after gas discharge.
Class II
, where the explosive atmospere consists of gasses other than mine gas
The valve has a high degree of protection (EPL = Gb) which allows the valve to be used in zones 1 and 2. There is a risk of explosion.
The valve is certified for all gas groups - IIA (typical is methane), IIB (typical is ethylene) and IIC (typical is hydrogen).
Class III
, where the explosive atmosphere consists of dust and combustible flammable particles
The valve has a high degree of protection (EPL = Db) which allows the valve to be used in zones 21 and 22. The valve must not be used in zone 20.
There is a risk of explosion. The valve is certified for all dust groups - IIIA (combustible fly particles), IIIB (non-conductive dust) and IIIC (conductive
dust).

Glossary of technical terms used
›
A hydraulic mechanism
is one in which energy is transmitted via the compressive energy of the working fluid.
›
A hydraulic directional control valve
is a valve designed to control the direction of movement or stop the output component of an appliance.
› The indirectly controlled valve consists of two basic parts. The control stage is operated directly, e.g. by a solenoid. The main stage is hydraulical
ly controlled depending on the position of the control stage.
›
The volumetric flow rate Q
s the amount of liquid in volume units that flows through a given flow cross-section per unit time (SI unit is
m
3
s
-1
,
in practice the unit
l/min
is used)
›
The control solenoid
is designed to reposition the valve spool that interconnects or closes the ports in the body. The solenoid consists of
an excitation coil which, by passing an electric current through the winding, generates a magnetic field which exerts a force on the armature of
the mechanical control system.
›
Poppet-type valves
damp the flow by inserting the cone into the saddle with very low volume losses compared to a spool valve.
› The screw-in valve is designed to be screwed into the moulded chamber in the hydraulic block. The valve body is replaced by a steel sleeve in which
the spool or cone moves.
›
Pressure
is the force acting per area unit (SI unit
Pascal
(1 Pa = Nm
-2
), in practice the unit used is
bar
(1bar = 0,1MPa)
