START-UP
2.1.1 Start-Up And Post Start-Up Check List
2.1.2 Starting The Diesel Engine
Read the manufacturer’s engine manual before starting engine.
The power unit system has manual starting capabilities. The hydraulic lines can either be
connected or disconnected to start.
After the engine has started and the hydraulic lines are connected, the recovery module
circuit will be engaged by moving the ball valve towards the operator.
Check to see that all of the brushes are operating properly. If the brushes do not move,
check to see that the scraper is installed properly, and that the hydraulic lines are installed
properly. Also, ensure that nothing is obstructing the brush from turning. (Note: Prolonged
dry running of the brushes will cause wear damage to the scrapers and brushes.)
Start the pump system and ensure suction is created on the inlet of the pump. Note:
Prolonged dry running of the pump could cause wear damage to occur.
Now shut off power unit and pump.
The skimmer is now ready to be deployed.

OPERATION
3.1
OPERATING THE SKIMMER
3.1.1 LAUNCHING THE RBS
TRITON™35 SKIMMER INTO THE WATER
Note
: Both the hydraulic lines and the suction hose must be attached to the skimmer
before launching.
Once in the water, the skimmer head must be able to float freely, requiring a minimum
water depth of 15.2cm (6 inches).
With the hoses attached, the skimmer head should float so that the brushes/drums/discs
are immersed approximately (1-2 inches) when initially placed in the water. (Note: This
value fluctuates with the salinity of the water and thickness of the oil slick.)
When first launched, the skimmer will sit high in the water, and will lower as the oil
recovered collects in the sump.
3.1.2 OIL RECOVERY
The power unit can now be started. Start the pump and
set the maximum pump speed at its highest value. The
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head should begin the recovery
of oil. Initially, operate the brushes at a slow speed,
increasing the speed slowly in accordance with the type
and viscosity of the oil.
With the brushes running, oil begins to collect in the small
central sump, and the
RBS TRITON™ skimmer head lowers in the water.
