Instruction Manual of
Reverse Osmosis Unit
Excel
Equipment
This reverse osmosis unit consists of:
water tap connector ¾"i - 6i, PE pressure tube black 6a -
4i, 10" filter housing with combifilter cartridge (activated
carbon and sediment filter 5 µm), reverse osmosis
membrane housing with plastic membrane: polyamide /
polysulfone (TFC), flushing valve, pressure gauge, and
each four screws and plugs for mounting the unit at the
wall.
Principe of function
The water pressure pushes the tap water through a semi
permeable membrane. The membrane is extremely fine, so
soluble substances like salts (hardness, nitrate, silica) and
organic substances like pesticides and medicaments are
rejected. To prevent blocking of the membrane a part of
the water with the concentrated wastes has to drained with
the brine (concentrate).
The quality and water flow of the pure water (permeate) of
a reverse osmosis unit is controlled by some factors. The
better the tap water (feed water) the better the permeate;
but in most cases it is impossible to change the tap water
quality. - The higher the water pressure the higher the pure
water flow and the better the pure water quality. Therefore
it is not possible to use a reverse osmosis unit below 3 bar
water pressure (see pressure gauge 17). To higher the
pressure it is possible to use a booster pump. - The higher
the water pressure the higher the water flow. But don't use
a reverse osmosis unit above 30°C (90°F); the membrane
would be violated.
All AquaCare reverse osmosis units are build with a
sediment filter to prevent the membrane of particles and
with an activated carbon filter to prevent the membrane of
chlorine and other oxidants. The type
Excel
combines both
filters in one combifilter.
The flushing valve (20) performs the regular maintenance.
If you open the valve the water flows with high speed
along the membrane and cleans it. The life time of the
membrane increases enormously.
Mounting the unit
The best place of an AquaCare reverse osmosis unit is in
the near of a water tap or in the near of the aquarium.
Please note that you have to have enough place to be able
to maintain the unit. The best place is cool and free of
sunlight.
If the unit has to be mounted more than 5 metres away
from the water tap, you must use 10 mm pressure tube
instead of 6 mm tube for the feed water. If the waste water
connector is more than 5 metres away form the reverse
osmosis unit, please use 10 mm tube for the brine, too.
The mounting board (6) which contains the reverse
osmosis unit can be mounted at a wall - screws and plugs
are delivered. Please mark the wholes of the mounting
board at the wall. Then drill two or four holes (6 mm
diameter in stone) minimum 30 mm deep. Push the plugs
into the holes and use the screws to fix the board at the
wall. If you want to fix it on wood or plastic drill holes
with diameters between 2.5 and 3.0 mm.
Then connect the tubes (look at Fig. I). All tubes (5) has to
be cut with a sharp knife (straightly cut ends!). Please use
only the original AquaCare pressure tubes. Otherwise
leakage is possible.
The pressure tube is pushed into the push fit fitting until it
cannot be pushed further. The tube should be gently pulled
to ensure that the connection is sound. The connection can
be released by pushing back the collet and pulling the tube
out.
The water tap connector (4) must be screwed onto a tap -
do not forget the seal (1). If there is no 3/4" male available
please ask AquaCare. Please do not use any tools to
prevent destruction. Push the black tube into the fitting (3)
and cut it in the right length to connect the unit. The other
end of the tube must be pushed into the feed water inlet
(8).
All in- and outlets of the membrane housing are plugged
with tube plugs. Disassemble the red plugs. Now push the
tube at the right side of the 10" filter housing (9) in the
downwards fitting of the membrane housing (15). The rest
of the tube can be used for connecting the pure water (B)
and brine outlet (C). Push the tube into the pure water
outlet and cut the tube at the right length.
The brine outlet has to be connected to a drain. Special
drain saddles are available at AquaCare.
Please collect the plugs for further applications.
Attention:
The feed water should be below 30°C (90°F). Otherwise
the membrane would be destroyed.
Pure water (permeate) and brine (concentrate) have to be
flow without resistance. The tubes should not be sharp
bended. No needle or shut of valves should not be used. If
you want to use an magnetic valve to shut off the reverse
osmosis unit automatically, please build it between 10"
combifilter and membrane housing.
Putting into operation
Open the water tap - the air escapes from the unit. Then
close the flushing valve.
Attention: the flushing valve do not shut totally! Do not
close it tightly! Otherwise the correct function of the
reverse osmosis unit is not guaranteed.
Please search for leakage (look at “faults”).
Now open the flushing valve (20) and flush the unit the
first time for 30 min. The water should be flow in a fast
way. - Close the flushing valve. The first 2 liters pure
water have to be spilled. After 2-3 hours operation check
water quality and water flow of the unit (look at
“maintenance”).
Maintenance
To guarantee good and long function of the reverse
osmosis unit, it has to be carefully maintained.
Maintenance with every use - the flushing
valve
Flush the unit before and after use for c. 2 min (if you
have very hard feed water flush for 5 min). If the unit
works without any stop flush every week for minimum
10 minutes (hard water 20 min).
