Disconnect any hoses from the 

powerhead and take it out of the 

aquarium.

Remove the intake strainer and 

any outlet or inlet adapters.

Unlock the impeller cover by 

turning it counterclockwise

Remove the impeller cover and 

impeller. A small pair of pliers 

can help to grip the impeller, 

making it easier to remove.

Use a pipe brush to clean 

the impeller well and internal 

channels of the powerhead. 

Wipe the outside with a cloth to 

remove any buildup. 

 

Do not use abrasive 

materials or chemicals not 

intended for aquarium use.

Reassemble the powerhead 

and place it back into the 

original position. Make sure 

your hands and all plugs are 

dry, then reconnect to power 

and turn it on.
