SR 50
Never ride off briskly with a cold engine.
Allow the engine to warm up by riding
slowly for the first few miles.
♦
Do not open throttle while the brakes are
applied.
To ride away, see p. 49 (RIDING).
CAUTION
STARTING WITH
ENGINE FLOODED
If the starting procedure is not done properly,
or if there is excess fuel in the intake duct,
the engine may flood.
To free a flooded engine proceed as follows:
Press and hold down the starter button “
”
(6) for a few seconds (running the engine
without load) with the throttle control (8) fully
opened
(Pos. A)
.
COLD STARTING
At very low temperatures (near to or less than
0° C) it may be difficult to start the engine for
the first time.
If this occurs, proceed as follows:
♦
Keep the starter button “
” (6) pressed
for a few seconds, opening the throttle
control (8) moderately (Pos. A) at the
same time.
If the engine starts.
♦
Release the throttle control (8).
♦
If the engine idles unevenly, turn the
throttle control (8) repeatedly with small,
frequent movements.
To start riding, see page 49 (SETTING OFF
AND RIDING).
If the engine won't start.
Wait a few seconds then repeat the COLD
STARTING procedure.
♦
If necessary, remove the spark plug (see
page 75 - SPARK PLUG) and check that
it isn't damp.
♦
If the spark plug is damp, clean it and dry it.
Before refitting the spark plug:
IMPORTANT
Place a clean cloth on the
cylinder next to the spark plug seat, to protect
it from any splashes of oil.
♦
Press the starter button “
” (6) and run
the starter motor for about five seconds,
without accelerating.
