6. TYPICAL OPERATION
5.2 SENDING DIGITAL AUDIO
The digital module provides three simultaneous 8-channel outputs:
1. Four AES/EBU 110 ohm pairs on a 15-pin D-Sub
2. ADAT® Optical on a TOSLINK Jack
3. Tascam TDIF® on a 25-pin D-Sub
Connect your digital audio receivers to any or all of these outputs. You need to take into
account the clocking requirements of all outboard equipment. In some special cases this
may prevent you from usinng all the outputs at once.
AES/EBU Output
Four 2-channel standard professional AES/EBU outputs are provided. The pinout of the
15-pin D-Sub is according to our own standard. The chart below shoes the wiring pinout
so you can make suitable breakout adapters.
TDIF® Jack
The pinout is standardized by Tascam. We have reproduced their wiring diagram for you
for reference only. We highly recommend that you obtain commercially available cables.
ADAT® Optical
This runs on a plastic optical fiber that can transmit over a limited distance of typically 10
meters maximum. It is most suitable when the ADAT device is located in or next to the
same rack as the 1788A.
