STEP 6

POSTURAL BELT

When necessary, a postural belt can be used to support the wheelchair occupant as shown in Figure 9.

Place postural belt below the arms around the wheelchair occupant.

Buckle up around the wheelchair.

Make sure the padding is located at chest height.

Adjust belt if necessary.

A postural belt is used for support only.

PELVIC BELT RESTRAINTS SHOULD MAKE FULL 

CONTACT ACROSS THE FRONT OF THE BODY 

NEAR THE JUNCTION OF THE THIGH AND PELVIS.

RESTRAINTS SHOULD NOT BE HELD AWAY FROM 

BODY BY WHEELCHAIR COMPONENTS SUCH AS 

ARM RESTS OR WHEELS.
