INSTALLATION CHECKLIST
Note: Use and complete this checklist before lighting the
heater. Correct any conditions that do not meet these
instructions.
Water Heater Location
〇
Centrally located with the water piping system.
Located as close to gas piping and vent pipe system
as possible.
〇
Located indoors and in a vertical position. Protected
from freezing temperatures.
〇
Proper clearances from combustible surfaces
maintained and not installed directly on a carpeted
floor.
〇
Provisions made to protect the area from water
damage. Metal drain pan installed and piped to an
adequate drain.
〇
Installation area free of corrosive elements and
flammable material.
〇
Sufficient room to service the water heater.
Gas Supply and Piping
〇
Gas supply is the same type as listed on the water
heater data plate.
〇
Gas line equipped with shut-off valve, union and dirt
leg
〇
Approved pipe joint compound used.
〇
Adequate pipe size and of approved material.
〇
Chloride-free soap and water solution or other
approved means used to check all connections and
fittings for possible gas leaks.
Vent Pipe System
〇
Vent pipe and fittings of approved material.
〇
Acceptable size, length and number of elbows on
exhaust vent system.
〇
Installed in accordance with prevailing provisions
of local codes, or in the absence of such, the latest
edition of “National Fuel Gas Code”, ANSI Z223.1/
NFPA 54.
〇
Horizontal piping slopes at an upward pitch of 1/8 in.
rise per 4 ft. away from the water heater.
〇
Not obstructed in any way.
〇
Venting properly supported and able to move freely
for expansion and contraction.
〇
Condensate drain connected as required.
Vent Termination Horizontal
〇
12” min. above grade/snow level.
〇
Away from corners, other vents, windows etc.
〇
Correct termination screen installed and secured.
Vertical
〇
Exhaust vent termination 18” min. above roof/snow level.
〇
Correct termination screen installed and secured.
Water System Piping
〇
Temperature and Pressure relief valve properly installed
with a discharge line run to an open drain and protected
from freezing.
〇
All piping properly installed and free of leaks.
〇
Heater completely filled with water.
〇
Closed system pressure build-up precautions installed.
〇
All components used in combo heating systems or
recirculation loop systems suitable for potable water.
〇
Check valves installed in combo heating and recirculation
loop systems.
Electrical Connections
〇
Unit connected to a (preferably dedicated) 120V electrical
supply.
〇
Proper polarity.
〇
Water heater properly grounded.
〇
Electrical outlet is NOT a GFI outlet.
〇
Installed in accordance with prevailing provisions of local
codes, or in the absence of such, the latest edition of
“National Electrical Code” (NFPA 70)”.
After all actions on checklist are checked/ completed, read the
Lighting Instructions and proceed with lighting the heater.
