Amana Compact Washer

For Service Technician Use Only
TEST #5: Drain Pump
NOTE:
The top of the standpipe must be at least 39” (991 mm)
high and no higher than 72” (1.8 m) from the bottom of the
washer. Make sure that drain hose is not sealed into drain, and
that there is an air gap for ventilation.
Perform the following checks if washer does not drain.
1. Check for obstructions in drain hose, the pump, or
between basket and tub; clean as necessary. Check
plumbing for correct drain hose installation.
2. Check the drain pump and electrical connections by
turning on the drain pump in Manual Load Test on
page 2-4. The following steps assume that this step was
unsuccessful.
3. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
4. Access the UI/Control Board.
5. Visually check that the
CN4
connector is inserted all the
way into the main control.
¾
If visual check passes, go to step 6.
¾
If connector is not inserted properly, reconnect CN4
and repeat step 2.
6. Remove the rear panel to access the component
interconnect bundle. Locate the drain pump harness
interconnect.
7. Visually check the electrical connections at the drain
pump interconnect.
¾
If visual check passes, go to step 8.
¾
If connection is loose, reconnect and repeat step 2.
8. With an ohmmeter, check harness for continuity between
the drain pump interconnect and UI/Control Board.
See chart below.
Drain Pump (Interconnect) to Control Board
Drain Pump Pin 1 to UI/Control CN4-1 (Pink Wire)
Drain Pump Pin 2 to UI/Control CN1-3 (White Wire)
¾
If there is continuity, go to step 9.
¾
If there is no continuity, repair or replace the drain
pump harness and repeat step 2.
9. With an ohmmeter, measure the resistance across the
drain pump connector (see Figure 2). Resistance should be
as shown in the chart below:
Component
Connector
Correct Resistance
Drain Pump

14.24 - 17.4

¾
If values are open or out of range, replace the drain
pump.
¾
If values are correct, go to step 10.
10. Replace the User Interface/Control Board and perform the
Manual Load Test on page 2-4 to verify repair.
