Scale deposits
• Scale (calcium carbonate) is a harmless natural mineral contained in water that may
deposit and create a thin solid coating on the inner walls of the boiler.
If you see that scale is forming, clean the boiler with a mixture of water and vinegar.
To eliminate the scale, pour a mixture of 50% water and 50% white vinegar into the
boiler. Do not insert the funnel. Close the espresso maker and place it on the power
supply base.
Let the espresso maker heat for a maximum of one minute, then remove it from the power
supply base and place it on a flat surface for a few hours (all night is recommended). Then
open the espresso maker, pour out the liquid and eliminate the remaining scale by rinsing
several times (
fig. 19).
After this, run the espresso maker a few times filled with just water to remove any
residues of the water/vinegar mixture, which could alter the coffee’s taste.
