VA160 Attendant Propelled Wheelchair
Usage and Maintenance Instructions
1. Introduction
Thank you for deciding to purchase the Attendant Propelled Wheelchair from Aidapt. The
Attendant Propelled Wheelchair is manufactured from the finest materials and components
available. When used correctly it is designed to give many years of reliable trouble-free
service.
2. Intended Use
The Attendant Propelled Wheelchair has a maximum carrying capacity of 100 kg (16 stone)
which must never be exceeded. It is classed as an invalid carriage for use indoor or on
pavements, pedestrian zones and other areas outside which are free from traffic. Use on the
road or highway is not allowed except for the purpose of crossing.
Please note this wheelchair is not designed to be used as seating in a vehicle. Always transfer
to another seat as this wheelchair seated in a vehicle will not provide the same safety and
security as the vehicle’s own seating system.
3. Cleaning
Clean your Attendant Propelled Wheelchair using a non-abrasive cleaner or mild detergent
with a soft cloth only. Only use a mild detergent or disinfectant; never use an abrasive
cleaner. Always ensure that you wipe dry all equipment and treat joints with a water
dispersing agent, e.g. WD40.
4. Transferring to and from the Wheelchair
Circumstances and individual needs will vary and we
recommend you consult a healthcare professional regarding
transfers.
During transfers always make sure that the brakes are in a
locked position and the wheelchair is as close as possible to
the transfer surface.
5. Folding the Wheelchair
The wheelchair is folded by grasping the seat canvas at the front centre with one
hand and at the rear with the other. A simple lifting action will draw both sides
of the chair together into the folded position.
6. Unfolding the Wheelchair
When both wheels have been secured, grasp both side frames of the wheelchair
and pull apart as far as possible or at least until there is sufficient room to push
down on the sides of the seat canvas.
To assist you in storing the chair for transportation, first remove the footrests,
fold down the rear push handles (if applicable) and fold the chair as described in
earlier paragraph. Ensure the back upholstery folds to the rear of the chair and in
a tidy manner.
7. Footrest Adjustment Procedures
Adjustments are made with the user sitting in the wheelchair with feet on
footplates. Wherever possible please consult with a healthcare professional for
the optimum height.
1.
Use a spanner to loosen the bolt at the bottom of the footrest support
hanger.
2.
Adjust the footplate up or down as needed to provide maximum support
of thighs on the seat upholstery, then re-tighten the bolt.
WARNING! Ensure that desired length adjustment does not cause undue
pressure on your thighs.
Your footrests are capable of being rotated outwards. Simply pull the lever
towards you and turn in the required direction then lift off the two pegs.
NB. This equipment must be installed by a competent
person.
Weight Limit: 100 kg (16 stone)
Do not exceed the weight limit stated – doing so
could put the user at risk.
