Setting the Configuration Switches
Personal computer (PC) plug-in interface cards can use four possible
resources:
• I/O Addresses
• Memory Addresses
• IRQ ( i nt
erru
pt) Lines
• DMA Channels
The HP 82340 and HP 82341 cards use 110 address space, and Ihe HP 82335
uses memory address space. You muSI sel I/O address DIP switches on the
HP 82340 and HP 82341A-C, and memory address DIP switches on the
HP 82335, to prevent conflicts with other PC cards or system resources. On
Windows 95, the Plug and Play HP 82341D card's I/O address is auto­
matically set for you during the HP I/O Libraries software configuration.
The HP 82335, HP 82340, and HP 82341 interface cards use an IRQ line.
You must set the IRQ line during the HP VO Libraries software config­
uration for the HP 82340 or HP 82341A-C on Windows NT. The Plug and
Play HP 82341 0 is not recommended for use on Windows NT 4.0 (or earlier
versions) due to possible conflicts with a sound card (the sound card may or
may not work properly with the HP 82341 D on Windows NT depending on
the individual PC). It is supported on Windows 95 where the card's IRQ line
is automatically set for you during the HP
110 Libraries software configura­
tion. The IRQ line on the HP 82335 card has two IRQ line switches thm you
must set on the card.
None of these cards use DMA channels.
The following subsections explain switch setting requirements for the
HP 82335. HP 82340. and HP 82341 HP-IB interfaces. Refer to the
subsection for the interface you are using.
Setting Switches on the HP 82335
The configuration switches on the HP 82335 interface set the interface's
operating parameters. They are set at the factory as shown in the Figure 2-1,
which specifies memory segment Deao. Switches I through 4 detennine the
memory address of the interface. Switches 5 and
6
set the interrupt (IRQ)
line. Switches 7 and 8 are not used by SICL.
