C.1 External tanks vs. internal tanks
The internal supply and waste tanks each have a three gallon capacity. If you require
more capacity, the instrument can be operated with larger, user-supplied external tanks.
External tanks can increase the supply and waste water capacity of the instrument,
requiring less frequent refilling or emptying. However, this may increase the risk of
bacterial growth if water remains too long in the external tanks.
The instrument cannot monitor external tanks as it does the internal tanks. Only the
internal tanks are equipped with fluid sensors that detect when a tank is empty or full.
You must monitor the tank levels to make sure that the external supply tank has enough
water and the external waste rank has enough capacity to complete a run.
This appendix provides instructions for setting up external supply and waste tanks.
WARNING
!
WARNING!
Make sure there is enough supply water to complete the dispensing run. The
instrument will continue the run even if the external supply tank becomes empty. If this occurs, the
dispensing pins will not be properly rinsed and samples may become contaminated.
WARNING
!
WARNING!
Fluid overflow danger!
Make sure that the external waste tank has sufficient capacity
before starting a run. Otherwise, the tank will overflow during the run.
External tank
requirements
External tanks are not supplied with the instrument.
external supply and waste tanks.
It is recommended that the external supply and waste tanks have the same capacity. For
example, use a 5 gallon supply tank with a 5 gallon or greater waste tank.
