In 1958, Jo Michelini won the „APBA Class F“ title with the Airmarine Special. As an experienced designer he created a unique hull for his
hydroplane that proved to run very stable and reliable at speeds in excess of 110 km/h.
We developed a model of the Airmarine Special in 1:5,2 scale, which has not only the looks but also the characteristics of the original. The
hydroplane kit is made of mahogny and birch ply, cockpit and fin are covered with Oratex. A special jig, which is typical for all laser cut aero-naut
models, is used to build the hull and ensures a rapid and easy building process.
Like the original, the model of the Airmarine Special is powered by an outboard motor, which is availbable from aero-naut.
Construction should be according to the step-by-step instructions provided in this manual. Remove only those parts from the laser cut sheets which
are required for the current building step.
Use a sharp modelling knife to cut individual parts from laser sheets. Use sandpaper to clean any residue of the laser cutting process from the
individual parts to get good contact surfaces for gluing. Always check that parts fit perfectly. Correct, if necessary, before you glue. Give glue
sufficient time to dry before you begin with the next step.
We recommend white glue and epoxy resin (if not otherwise noted) for gluing, which offer good strength and low weight. Both types of glue retain
a certain degree of elasticity even after the glue has cured und will stand up to any loads which occur during handling and operating the boat.
Be careful when handling untreated wood, especially mahogany. To avoid specks of glue, which might damage the surface of the wood, treat all
parts with wood filler (aero-naut Order-No. 7666/02) and sand with 320 grade paper before you glue. Also, before you race the boat on your local
lake or river, make sure you waterproof the model with several coats of a good clear varnish (inside and outside). Use epoxy resin for all parts that
you glue to a varnished surface.

Fit together both parts of the aero-naut jig and secure on
building board with tape.
Glue together two parts 11 to form the keel. Insert formers into jig
as shown, insert keel into formers and jig and glue keel to formers.
Secure parts in this and in following bulding steps with
pegs, clamps or tape until glue has dried.
