6.3: MOORING WITH ANCHORS
Mooring with anchors (
FIGURE 3A)
is ideal for lagoons where it is impractical to use
mooring posts. Mooring cable is attached to eye bolts or eye nuts (not included) located
on the float system (
FIGURE 13B)
. Notice that mooring line should include a quick
disconnect so an aerator can be unattached while the anchors are left in place. It is
recommended that when disconnected from the aerator/float the mooring lines be
connected to separate floats to prevent the loose cable from sinking. Size the cable per
motor horsepower by using the chart in
Appendix C
. Use a cable length of three times
the pond depth. Each mooring line should contain an anchor at the ratio of 60 pounds
(27.2 kg) of concrete weight per motor horsepower.
For example: 120 pounds (54.4 kg) on each cable for a 2 horsepower unit, for
a total of 360 pounds (163.2 kg).
