introducing  additional  warm  product.  This  will  minimize  the  temperature  transient  while
loading. Other tips for successful loading include:

-

Leave about 2-3 inches of free space along the back and sides of the unit to allow for proper
air flow and, therefore, more even cooling of the product.

-

When loading the top shelf, avoid blocking the evaporator fan and circulation grille.

-

Do  not  overload  the  unit.  Maximum  recommended  loading  is  approximately  75%  of  each
compartment’s  volume.  Additionally,  the  load  should  be  distributed  evenly  from  top  to
bottom and side to side for best results. Do not store product below the lowest shelf.

-

Minimize the time the doors are open. On top of letting the cold air out, you are also letting
warm, moist air in which can result in more condensation and/or frost in the unit.

-

Always check the cycle –as indicated by the icons on the control. If you are in defrost mode,
it is best not to open the door (see detail, below).

The RFC-16A freezer has a proprietary auto-defrost feature. It initiates into a defrost cycle every
12 hours to remove frost build-up around the evaporator coil. This cycle lasts up to 15 minutes.
During  this  time,  the  compressor  is  turned  off  and  defrost  heaters  are  turned  on  in  the
evaporator. This will cause a rise in air temperature inside the freezer, but the temperature in
the  freezer  compartment  will  not  rise  above  -15,  as  the  conditioned  plenum  is  almost
completely thermally separated from the storage area.

It is best to avoid opening the door during a defrost cycle.

You  will  know  that  a  defrost  cycle  is  underway  when  the  symbol  is  illuminated  on  the  digital
controller.

Remember  that  the  units  are  calibrated  to  the  desired  temperature  at  the  factory  where
extensive  testing  employed  to  ensure  that  these  temperatures  will  result  in  product
