The STO function is intended exclusively for stopping a drive functionally safely and
for securing it against restarting. To achieve functional safety, the circuit of the safety
circuit must meet the safety requirements of EN 60204, EN 12100 and EN 13849-1.
The STO function must not be used if the amplifier must be shut down for the
following reasons:
Cleaning, maintenance and repair work, prolonged decommissioning. In these
cases, the entire system must be disconnected from the power supply and
secured by the personnel (main switch).
Emergency stop: in emergency stop case the mains contactor is switched off
(emergency stop button)
The installation space must have at least IP54 protection. The wiring in the
specified installation space must meet the requirements of EN 60204-1 and
ISO 13849-2 (Table D.4).
If the STO function is used, the STO enable must be connected to the output
of a safety controller or a safety relay that at least meets the requirements of
PLd, Cat. 3 according to EN 13849.
Incorrect control is not detected. Therefore, the output of the safety device
must be monitored to detect malfunctions
When connecting and laying the cables of the STO contact (X1/STO), observe the
manufacturer's instructions for Kollmorgen (Kollmorgen AKD Servocontroller
installation instructions, chapter 7.16 Save Torque Off (STO))
