Air Injection Oxidation 

 
Aeration injects dissolved oxygen to convert the iron and manganese from their ferrous and manganous forms to their insoluble 
form.  It takes 0.14 ppm of dissolved oxygen to oxidize 1 ppm of iron; it takes 0.27 ppm of dissolved oxygen to oxidize 1 ppm of 
manganese. 
The air injection process requires careful control of the flow.  If water usage becomes to great, not enough air is applied to oxidize 
the iron and manganese.  The advantage of the Hankscraft Iron Removal System is that the aeration is adjustable from immediate 
on demand to delayed aeration based on real time water usage and the oxidation process can be optimized.
