Symptom
The Activity LED on the single-port RJ-45 module does not indicate any
activity, despite being connected to an operational network.
Meaning
The cable that connects the module’s port to the network may be shorted
or damaged, or you may have installed the wrong type of cable.
Action
Take the following action:

Check the cable for any signs of shorting or damage.
Replace the cable if necessary.

Check “Installing Ethernet Interface Modules” to make sure that you have
installed the right cable for your module.

If the Activity LED remains off, contact your network supplier.
Symptom
The Link LED on the single-port RJ-45 module fails to light.
Meaning
There is no connection between the module’s port and the workstation,
hub, or repeater.
Action
Take the following action:

Make sure the cable is properly wired.
Refer to “Wiring Considerations”. If the cable is improperly wired, replace it.

Make sure that all network connections are secure.

If these steps do not solve your problem, replace your Ethernet interface
module, as described in “Replacing an Ethernet Interface Module”.

If the symptom persists, contact 3Com or your network supplier.
Symptom
The Polarity LED on the single-port RJ-45 module remains on.
Meaning
The twisted-pair cable’s polarity is reversed.
Action
If the cable is improperly wired, replace it. Refer to “Wiring Considerations”
for additional information.
