Connections for 3Com 2101 Basic Telephones
Using the Telephone’s Switch Port
Many 3Com telephones contain a two-port Ethernet switch with
connectors on the underside of the phone. One port is used to connect
the telephone to the LAN and the other port connects a computer or
other Ethernet device to the LAN.
To connect a computer to the switch port on the telephone:
■
Use a Category 5 UTP cable with RJ-45 connectors.
■
Connect one end of the Category 5 cable to the computer’s Ethernet
network interface card (NIC).
■
Connect the other end of the cable to the Ethernet switch port on the
underside of the telephone.
The Ethernet port is labeled with this icon:
■
Do not use the telephone’s Ethernet port to connect another 3Com
telephone to the system.
