About This Manual
Getting Started covers the basic information you need to
install and configure your Prestige 128 for connection to
the Internet through an ISP (Internet Service Provider).
For more details on this and other applications, please
refer to the Prestige 128 User’s Manual.
Before You Start
To install your Prestige, you will need the following items
in addition to the contents of this package:
•
An ISDN telephone line installed by your telephone
company.
•
An Ethernet connection to your computer.
•
A computer equipped with communications software.
The communications software must be configured to the
following parameters:
•
VT100 terminal emulation
•
9600 Baud rate
•
None parity, 8 Data bits, 1 Stop bit
Please make sure you have all of these components before
you attempt to install your Prestige.
Installing Your Prestige
Figure 1 shows a diagram of the rear panel of the Prestige
128. To help avoid problems, refer to this diagram when
you are connecting the cables to your unit.
Warning
: If the wrong cable is used, your Prestige may be
damaged.
Connecting the RS-232 Cable
One white RS-232 cable is included with your router. To
connect the RS-232 cable, first click open the door on the
right panel to reveal the port. Slide one end of the RS-232
cable (looks like a telephone jack) into the port until the
retainer clicks into place. Connect the other end of the
RS-232 cable to the serial port (COM1, COM2, or any
other COM port) of your computer.
