Operating Button-Based Consoles
42
All messages are numbered sequentially from 01 to 64. When 64 is reached and a new
message is recorded, the numbering starts over at 01 and the oldest message is erased. The
next new message replaces message 02, the one after that 03, and so on.
The current message number is displayed on the console during all
PLAY/PAUSE
and
REWIND
functions. It is cleared by the
RESET
function.
IRR playback is controlled by the
PLAY/PAUSE
,
REWIND
, and
RESET
functions; IRR
recording is controlled by the
RECORD
function (these are described in
Functions (Models 4018 & 4118 Only)
Telephone Line Operation
When properly equipped, your console may be used to answer and originate telephone
calls. Normally you have several control buttons for each telephone line at your console:
SELECT/CALL
,
ON HOOK / OFF HOOK
,
V ADJ/MUTE
,
PATCH
and
INSTANT
XMIT
.
Answering Calls
Incoming calls are indicated by a blinking Call LED and a ringing type sound on your
speaker. The line may be answered (off hook) by pressing the line’s
ON HOOK/OFF
HOOK
button so that the button’s red LED goes on. In order to talk to the telephone party,
you must first select the line by pressing that line’s
SELECT
button. Then you use the
normal
TRANSMIT
button. Alternatively, you may use the line’s
INSTANT XMIT
button. Unless the line is selected, normal two-way conversation is not possible. You may
use the
MUTE
button in a similar way to a telephone hold button if you desire.
Originating Calls
Call origination requires that your console is equipped with an encoder used for tone
dialing. To place a call, select the telephone line (using the
SELECT
button) and pick up
the line (using the
OFF HOOK
button). Next, use your encoder to enter the telephone
number you wish to dial. Most likely, you need to enter a special first digit to access the
tone dialing format of the encoder. Send the entered number to the telephone line by
pressing the
PAGE
or
SEND
button on the encoder. The number is then dialed.
To disconnect a call (On Hook), press the
ON HOOK/OFF HOOK
button so that the
green LED is illuminated.
Telephone Patching
The telephone line’s
PATCH
button is used to establish a radio/telephone patch. Prior to
patching, the telephone line must first be connected (by pressing the
OFF HOOK
button).
Next, press the
PATCH
button of all channels to be included in the patch, including the
telephone line’s
PATCH
button. The red LEDs of active
PATCH
buttons are illuminated.
When the patch is completed, first turn the patch off by again pressing the active
PATCH
buttons, then disconnect the telephone line (by pressing the
ON HOOK
button).
