Remove the timing belt.

Remove all the oil pan bolts.

Remove the oil pan.

Remove the oil screen.

Remove the front case assembly.

Remove the oil pump cover.

EDKE202A

Remove the inner and outer gears from the front case.
The matching marks on the inner and outer gears in-
dicate the direction of installation.

INSPECTION

FRONT CASE

Check the front case for cracks or damage. Replace
as necessary.

Check the front oil seal for worn or damaged lips. Re-
place if defective.

OIL PAN AND OIL SCREEN

Check the oil pan for failure, damage or cracks. Re-
place if defective.

Check the oil screen for failure, damage and cracks
and replace if defective.

FRONT CASE AND OIL PUMP COVER

Check the surfaces contacting the gears for damage or
wear.

OIL PUMP GEARS

Check the gear tooth surfaces for wear or damage.

Measure the clearance between outer gear and front
case.

Body clearance : 0.12 ~ 0.185 mm (0.0047 ~ 0.0073 in.)
Tip clearance : 0.025 ~ 0.069 mm (0.0010 ~ 0.0027 in.)
Side clearance
Inner gear : 0.06 ~ 0.11 mm (0.0023 ~ 0.0043 in.)
Outer gear : 0.04 ~ 0.085 mm (0.0016 ~ 0.0033 in.)
