Preparing the device for sterile use
Attach asepsis caps and drapes
Attaching asepsis caps
The device can be equipped with resterilizable products for sterile use.
The asepsis sets available from ZEISS contain caps and handgrips which can
be sterilized in autoclaves. For more detailed information about sterilization,
please refer to the enclosed "Preparation of resterilizable products" manual
for each Asepsis Set.
Attaching the drapes
To ensure sterile covering of the system, it is also possible to use the
single-use drapes.
When draping the system, make sure there is enough slack in the drapes
to allow for movement of the microscope carrier and surgical microscope.
It is especially important that the drapes are completely loose around the
handgrips. The surgeon must be able to reliably operate the controls
through the drape.
CAUTION Risk of infection due to contamination!
• Only use the device with suitable, sterile accessories.
CAUTION Risk of infection from contaminated asepsis accessories!
• Use only sterile asepsis accessories suitable for the system.
• You must clean, disinfect and sterilize asepsis accessories before each
use. This also applies to the first use after delivery.
• Make sure that the operating personnel have been instructed in the
sterile operation of the device.
• Before each use of the surgical microscope, check that the asepsis caps
are firmly attached to the surgical microscope.
NOTE Covering the ventilation openings poses a risk of overheating!
• Do not cover any ventilation openings with drapes or anything else.
This could result in the light source overheating and lead to lamp failure.
